ASP Work Boats Receives Two WFSV Built by Topaz Engineering (UAE)

Renaissance Services subsidiary, Topaz Engineering, a UAE-based full service ship building, ship repair and engineering services company, confirms it has completed the delivery of two wind farm support vessels (WFSV) to ASP Work Boats Ltd, part of the global ASP Ship Management Group.

David Borcoski, Group MD and CEO of ASP Ship Management Group said:

”Topaz Engineering has done an excellent job in completing the construction of our wind farm support vessels and delivering them within the time-frame requested. We look forward to working with ASP again in the future.”

The contract, signed on 19th September 2011 was for the design and construction of two DNV +1A1 HSLC R1 Windfarm Service Category 1Vessels. The two boats have an LOA (length overall) of 18 metres, a beam of 7.5 metres, and a lightship displacement of 43 tons. Both are powered by two Scania 700hp engines and can operate up to 150 miles offshore at cruising speeds of up to 25 knots. The vessels were built in Topaz Marine Engineering’s NicoCraft Aluminium Boat Building Facility in Abu Dhabi, and were completed in 7 1/2 months. NicoCraft LLC is one of the leading shipyards in the region, offering full turnkey design, construction, delivery and life cycle support services for new vessel construction and vessel conversion projects.

Thomas Bower, Managing Director of Topaz Engineering, added:

”The wind farm sub-sector is one of the fastest growing segments of the offshore support vessel market and having just delivered on these two wind farm support vessels, we are keen to offer our further support to this niche industry. According to the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA), there are now a total of 1,371 offshore turbines across 53 wind farms in 10 countries in Europe. Supporting these current and future wind farms is an attractive commercial opportunity and we looking forward to building on our order book.”
