Atwood lands Oz drilling work with Woodside

Offshore drilling contractor Atwood Oceanics has been awarded a one-well drilling services contract with the energy company Woodside, offshore Australia.

Atwood reported on Monday that one of its subsidiaries agreed the contract with the Australian energy company for the 2011-built, ultra-deepwater, semi-submersible drilling rig, Atwood Osprey.

The contract will start between May 24, 2017 and July 7, 2017, and has an estimated duration of approximately one hundred and thirty days. The rig’s operating day rate will be $185,000 per day.

Previously, in March this year, Woodside transferred the remaining days of a contract it had with the Atwood Eagle rig to Atwood Osprey. The contract was set to start after Atwood Osprey’s completion of a drilling program with Chevron. This deal with Woodside provided the rig with work until January 2017 with the dayrate of $450,000, which was subject to change due to cost escalation and currency exchange provisions in the contract.
