Australia: 2nd Ichthys PSV named

Australia’s MMA Offshore has named the second of the two custom-built platform supply vessels that will support the Inpex-operated Ichthys LNG project.

The vessel, christened MMA Brewster, was officially named at a ceremony in Darwin Port last week.

The MMA Brewster will provide a link between the Australian mainland and the Ichthys LNG project’s offshore facilities, some 220 kilometres off the northern coast of Western Australia.

MMA Offshore won the contract from Inpex in 2014 to supply two PSV’s for long-term operations for the Ichthys project.

The MMA Brewster is set to work with the MMA Plover, that was named in August last year, and both have been named for reservoirs that contain hydrocarbons offshore northern Australia.

The Ichthys project is expected to produce 8.9 million tons of LNG and 1.6 million tons of LPG each year, along with more than 100,000 barrels of condensate per day at peak.

First LNG from the multi-billion project is expected by the third quarter of 2017, at least that was the latest official information from Inpex, despite recent reports saying that the project could start shipping condensate by end-2017 and LNG shipments next year.

The Ichthys project is a joint venture between Japan’s Inpex, major partner Total of France, Taiwan’s CPC Corporation and the Australian subsidiaries of Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric, Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas.
