Australia: Emperor Energy awaits resource statement for Judith field

Australia-based Emperor Energy has selected independent resource certifier RISC for auditing and assessment of contingent and prospective resource of the Judith gas field located in the company’s 100 percent-owned Vic/P47 permit offshore Australia.

Following the completion of reservoir engineering studies by 3D-Geo Consulting, Emperor said on Monday that RISC would audit and assess the contingent and prospective resources on the Judith gas field, which is located in the Vic/P47 permit in the Gippsland Basin offshore Victoria.

According to the company, the timing of this statement is expected to be in mid-September 2018.

The company added that, after RISC delivers the resources statement, Emperor would progress with scoping study costings of field development for gas production and delivery.

“The scoping studies will be carried out with the intention of establishing partnerships and conditional contractual arrangements during Q4 2018 for the financing, delivery, and offtake of gas from the Judith Field. Initial discussions have been held with prospective partners,” Emperor said.

Reservoir engineering

The reservoir engineering studies on the field were carried out and completed by 3D-Geo Consulting. The scope of the work included refinement of the seismic interpretation and depth mapping of the four gas pay reservoirs across the Judith structure defined at the Judith-1 Well.

Interpretation of the productive gas sands at the Longtom gas field located 22 kilometers to the west of Judith-1 was also completed.

These Lower Admiral Formation reservoirs were mapped and shown to extend from the Longtom wells eastwards across the Judith Structure but below the total depth of the Judith-1 well. Seismic amplitudes indicate the presence of gas saturation in these reservoirs across the Judith structure.

Gas-in-place estimates on the Judith field have now been revised to include this section of Longtom.

Emperor also completed a dynamic reservoir model providing simulated resource recovery for the resource statement along with simulated well flow rates for commercial evaluation.

Judith field

Judith-1 was drilled and operated by Shell in 1989. Excellent gas shows were encountered while drilling through sandstones in the Kipper Shale and the upper part of the Admiral Formation.

The field is contained within Emperor’s Vic/P47 permit in within proximity of the Kipper gas field operated by Exxon Mobil.

In 2017 Emperor said that the gas-in-place estimate for the Judith structure at P50 unrisked gas recoverable was estimated at 1.17 trillion cubic feet (tcf).

Emperor renewed the Vic/P47 permit for five years in February 2018 with a work program including drilling of an exploration well in the Judith North Structure by early 2021. The following month, Emperor completed a thorough well log evaluation of the Judith-1 well and gas discovery.
