Australia: HPH, Baulderstone Ink Port of Brisbane Expansion Deal

An agreement to start the construction of Berth 11, the first of two new container terminals at the Port of Brisbane, was signed this week.

The agreement Hutchison Port Holdings entered into with Baulderstone will consist of works related to ground improvements, in-ground infrastructure, pavement works and rail beams. Container handling equipment has already been provided and it is planned to be delivered to the terminal in the middle of next year.

HPH is currently setting up its proprietary terminal operating system nGen that is to be utilized throughout the Australian operations. The system will undergo its full implementation by the third quarter of 2012.

Berth 11 and Berth 12 will be handled under an agreement HPH signed with the investment group Q Port Holdings, which signed a $2.1 billion, 99-year lease on the Port of Brisbane with the Government of Queensland last year.

Berth 11 is planned to be functional in the fourth quarter of 2012 with Berth 12 scheduled for 2014.
