Huge FLNG Project Planned by Exxon and BHP

Exxon Mobil and partner BHP Billiton are planning to develop the world’s biggest floating LNG project offshore Western Australia in the Scarborough field, according to a filing with Australia’s environment department.

The floating LNG terminal would be able to produce 6 to 7 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of LNG and the production start-up is planned in 2020-2021. The 500 metres long terminal would be located 220 kilometres from the Australian coast.

Exxon Mobil and BHP Billiton, which are 50-50 joint venture partners in the Scarborough development, expect to make a final investment decision on the project in 2014-2015.
