Australia Peritus Wins Macedon Subsea Gig

Peritus have been awarded a contract to provide subsea engineering support services to BHP Billiton in the execution of the Macedon Gas Field project. The contract duration will be upwards of 12 months commencing at the start of September 2011 and will require Peritus to review design and installation deliverables on behalf of BHP Billiton.

Peritus shall be reviewing the work of McDermott who are the EPCI contractor on Macedon. There is also scope to provide fabrication support to BHP Billiton beyond the detailed design phase.

The Macedon field will comprise four production wells, located in water depths between 160m and 180m. The wells will convey wet gas to an onshore gas plant via a 75km long offshore pipeline and a 15km long onshore pipeline. The field will  be served by an umbilical traversing the same route as the pipeline. Infield there will be a manifold, an ILS (in-line sled), PLETs, SCMs and SUTAs all interconnected to the wells by flexible flowlines, rigid tie-in spools and various types of  flying leads.

The Peritus scope of work will primarily comprise the review of the design and analysis of the manifold, PLETs, ILS and rigid tie-in spools. This part of the review will be undertaken by Scott Sneddon, ably assisted by Ryan O’Kelley. Scott will  also be the project lead and serve as the interface with BHP Billiton.

One of the major challenges of this project will be the transportation and installation of the colossal length of umbilical to be laid. To this end a 2000Te and a 500Te carousel will be required to transport the sections of umbilicals from Rosyth  in the UK to Batam in Indonesia. The 2000Te and 500Te carousels will be designed by McDermott and are part of the review scope.

The umbilical and flexible flowline transpooling (onto and off the carousels) and installation analyses will also be reviewed. This part of the review shall be undertaken by Tim Le Souëf, providing expertise in dynamic analysis, in conjunction  with John Wilson, who has extensive experience of installation. Thomas Heath shall utilise his knowledge of rigid pipeline installation by reviewing the beach pull-in analysis and Roger Best can call on his expertise on vessels in the review the  installation vessel stability analysis. Should there be an expansion in the scope Peritus can draw on other resources both regionally and globally. This award is a significant milestone for Peritus and represents an ideal opportunity to demonstrate their capability and develop good relations with BHP Billiton going forward.
