Australia: QGC Inaugurates New Chinchilla Office

Western Downs Mayor Ray Brown today dedicated QGC’s permanent new Chinchilla office, the nerve centre of the company’s field operations in the Surat Basin.

The facility, built by Queensland’s Hutchinson Builders, incorporates a 24-hour control room where QGC can monitor and regulate the operation of wells, processing facilities and the pipeline that will supply gas to Gladstone for export.

Cutting-edge technology includes sensors in field equipment that relay information back to the control room.

This information is shared with a monitoring centre in Brisbane that will also oversee operations in Gladstone.

Outside the control room, the 2800sq m building accommodates about 130 people focused on activities as varied as landholder liaison, environmental compliance and indigenous relations.

QGC Operations Director Walter Simpson told the gathering: “We at QGC have a simple goal: to be the best producer of natural gas in Australia.

“To reach this goal we must operate with respect for people; for the environment; and for property.

“That means adopting best practices and innovating to limit impacts and maximise benefits for all the people associated with our business.

“By more closely monitoring our networks of equipment, we can also more efficiently operate and maintain our equipment, maximising the production of gas and enabling us to ensure continued safe operations,” he said.
