Australia: Santos GLNG Opens New Logistics Facility

Santos GLNG Opens New Logistics Facility

Santos GLNG officially opened a new logistics facility yesterday outside of the town of Roma to house all of its coal seam gas and maintenance equipment.

Santos GLNG Vice President Queensland Trevor Brown said the development of the logistics hub enabled Santos GLNG to lighten its footprint in town.

It took eight months to build and two weeks of road movements but all of our drilling and maintenance equipment from our office in Currey Street has been moved to the logistics hub,” Mr Brown said.

The hub is located 10 kilometres outside of town which means that trucks can avoid the main part of town. This is part of our commitment to minimising our impacts on the local community.

Mr Brown said the building comprised 1,600 standard pallet spaces and an area of 8,600m2 of concreted laydown area for large components such as engines, pipe assemblies and generators.

The facility is the equivalent of around 11 Olympic swimming pools in size and is 11 metres tall and already operating at 60 percent capacity,” Mr Brown said.

It has state-of-the-art technology in-built to measure, weigh, move and organise equipment. Next year it will also comprise a new Warehouse Management System that will use bar-coding technology to control, audit and track inventory.”

Mr Brown said the hub comprised office space with rest and fatigue management facilities for truck drivers which formed an important part of Santos GLNG’s commitment to ensuring safety was a priority.

Spaceframe, founded in Brisbane in 1962, have built the warehouse and are renowned for their deisgn and contruct innovations and solutions.
