Axess said on Friday that third-party inspection services were done from February to April 2019.

These included a range of advanced and conventional inspection methods, covering the rig’s main and auxiliary machinery.

According to Axess, the inspection services ensure that the rig will operate smoothly and safely with increased uptime in the next five years.

Donna Gray, Axess North Sea operations manager, said: “Over the years, Axess has been a close partner with Transocean and the appointment of our entity in the UK as the main third-party inspection contractor for Transocean 712, in this busy yard stay, is credited to this long track record and proves their trust in our capabilities.”

As for the rig, Transocean 712 is capable of drilling in water depths of 1,600 feet. It is built by Hyundai Heavy Industries at the Ulsan shipyard in South Korea and delivered in 1983.

The Transocean 712 was awarded a 13-well contract with ConocoPhillips back in July 2018. The 580-day long contract was expected to start in March 2019 in the UK North Sea.

According to Transocean’s fleet status report from April, the rig will work for ConocoPhillips until January 2021.

The estimated firm contract backlog is approximately $75 million, and the contract includes a one-well option.
