B.C. premier Clark to promote LNG potential in Asia

British Columbia’s premier Christy Clark is set to travel on a trade mission to South Korea, the Philippines and Japan in May, in an attempt to promote the province’s LNG export opportunities.

Clark said in a statement on Tuesday that, “this trade mission will focus on strengthening trade and investment with priority markets in South Korea and Japan and developing new trade ties in the Philippines.”

She added that the focus will also be on attracting new trade and investment partners in the liquefied natural gas sector.

As noted in premier Clark’s statement, Japanese companies have already made investments in BC’s LNG projects such as the Petronas-led Pacific NorthWest LNG or LNG Canada.

It will also be the first time a Canadian premier travelled to South Korea since the Canada-Korea free trade agreement was reached in January last year.
