Spain’s Bahía de Bizkaia Gas (BBG) received a cargo of liquefied natural gas from the Novatek-led Yamal LNG project in the Russian Arctic at its regasification plant in the port of Bilbao.

The cargo was delivered on board the Arctic LNG carrier, the 172,000-cbm Eduard Toll, marking the first direct delivery of Yamal LNG volumes to the Iberian Peninsula, BBG said.

According to the statement, 163,000 cubic meters have been snapped up by the trading company Axpo Iberia that has been operating for BBG.

So far, Yamal LNG mostly dispatched the cargoes to the Belgian port of Zeebrugge, the Montoir-de-Bretagne terminal in France and the Gate terminal in the Netherlands for transshipment.

The Arc7 LNG carrier, owned by the shipping giant Teekay, is one of 15 being built for the Novatek-operated Yamal LNG project. The project itself began exporting LNG early December last year and has recently started dispatching contracted volumes produced from its first liquefaction train.

Once the second and third production trains come on stream, the facility will have a total capacity of 16.5 mtpa.
