BAM to Build Mega Cruise Pier II in Curaçao

BAM International, part of Dutch-based construction-services company Royal BAM Group has won the USD 29 mn contract to design and construct a new mega cruise pier in Curaçao, a Dutch Caribbean island.

The project forms part of the total development of USD 43 million being realised by Curaçao Ports Authority as it aims to facilitate further cruise tourism growth.

The new Mega Cruise Pier II will be situated west of the entrance to St. Anna Bay and adjacent to Mega Cruise Pier I. Once completed in October 2017, the pier will be capable of accommodating the world’s largest Oasis-class cruise vessels. One such vessel is for example Harmony of the Seas, with its gross tonnage of 227,000 t and length of 1,187 feet.

In addition, the jetty is to be used for berthing general cargo vessels, BAM explains.

Under the contract, the scope of work for the Mega Cruise Pear II at Otrabanda, Willemstad, comprises the marine facilities consisting of the almost 200 meters long jetty, a 75 meters long trestle, four mooring dolphins and the land reclamation protected by shore revetment as well as improvements to the existing Mega Cruise Pier I. BAM International’s sister company is to be involved in the design of the new pier.

The company expects to start works immediately while work on site is to commence in the second half of 2016.
