Beach Energy said on Tuesday that it appointed Sally-Anne Layman as an independent non-executive director of the company.

Layman’s career has spanned 25 years as a mining professional, corporate financier, advisor, and company director.

According to the company, she brings significant international and cross-commodity experience, including 14 years at Macquarie Group where she was joint head of the Perth office for the Metals, Mining, and Agriculture division.

Beach also named Matt Kay as a managing director of the company. Kay has been the company’s chief executive officer since May 2016.

Regarding the appointments, chairman Glenn Davis said: “Ms. Layman has extensive experience in the resources sector, both in an engineering capacity as well as in financial markets. We look forward to her contribution to the company and the experience of her broad background.

“Beach has been seeking to increase gender diversity on the board over the past 18 months. This process was not rushed as we undertook an extensive search for the right candidate.

“Following the appointment of Ms. Layman, we believe the time is right to appoint Matt to the board. His demonstrated performance as the CEO and long career in oil and gas brings a depth of capability and experience to the board.”
