LNG exports from the United States can alleviate some of the strain on the global gas markets, Fatih Birol, Chief Economist at International Energy Agency said on the sidelines at the Flame conference being held in Amsterdam.

The evolvement of shale has a major impact, but the fundamentals of  gas markets are still there and the shale revolution needs to be placed in more realistic manner, according to Birol.

Also, U.S. energy and export policies will play a big role in the shale gas development in the U.S., he added.
