Borealis Forms Joint Venture for Chemical Tankers

UK-based shipping company Borealis Maritime is establishing a joint venture for commercial management of chemical tankers.

The joint venture company, Borealis Tankers, will be based in Istanbul, Turkey, and will initially concentrate on coated vessels with capacities of 5,000 to 8,500 dwt.

As informed, Borealis Tankers will start trading in January 2018 by taking delivery of five vessels managed by Borealis Maritime. The vessels in question are Bomar Juno, Bomar Haumea, Bomar Venus, Bomar Mars and Bomar Sedna.

Additional Borealis Maritime-managed vessels may join the Borealis Tankers’ fleet at a later stage, the company said.

Borealis Maritime had previously established Borealis Denizcilik (BoDen), a full technical management and crewing business focused on the same shipping segment, in Istanbul in 2016.

Borealis Tankers and BoDen will also focus on providing services to third party shipowners in the small chemical tankers market providing full management services, including commercial, operational and technical, according to the company.

Established in 2010, Borealis Maritime has over 70 ships under management.
