Borssele V Turbine Order Lands on MHI Vestas Desk

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has signed a firm order with Two Towers Consortium for the Borssele V offshore wind project, for which the turbine supplier will deliver two of its V164-9.5 MW turbines.

The Two Towers Consortium, comprising Van Oord, Investri Offshore and Green Giraffe Holding, won the tender to develop their project at the Dutch innovation site in April 2018 and immediately informed it had selected MHI Vestas as the preferred wind turbine supplier.

The project will demonstrate novel slip joint technology to connect the monopile and transition piece, and test eco-designs for scour protection to determine the effect on the marine environment.

For MHI Vestas, this is the fifth project in the Netherlands featuring its wind turbines. After Borssele V turbines are installed, the turbine supplier will have an install base of 218 turbines and 1.1GW in Dutch waters.

The two-turbine project is scheduled to be built in 2020.

“We are extremely proud that the Netherlands will be home to our next test project,” said MHI Vestas Chief Technology Officer, Torben Hvid Larsen. “Borssele V confirms once again that MHI Vestas is committed to continuous learning and collaborating with industry partners on innovations that will advance our collective knowledge and propel our industry forward.”
