Boskalis to Install Part of Hornsea One Foundations
DONG Energy Wind Power A/S has awarded Royal Boskalis Westminster with a contract for the transport and installation of the foundations for a part of the 1.2GW Hornsea Project One offshore wind farm located some 120 kilometers off the Yorkshire coast, UK.
The transport and installation of the foundations will be executed by Boskalis’ new offshore transport and installation crane vessel for which an existing F-class heavy transport vessel will be converted.
The vessel will be equipped with a 3,000-ton mast crane, dynamic positioning (DP2) and additional accommodation for up to 150 people.
Boskalis did not reveal exactly how many out of the wind farm’s 174 foundations this contract covers.
Hornsea Project One will comprise 174 Siemens 7MW wind turbines installed across an area of 407 square kilometers.
On completion in 2020, it will be the world’s first offshore wind farm to exceed 1,000 MW in capacity.
DONG Energy is the sole owner of Hornsea One. The company also has the project rights to the Hornsea Project Two and Three, which have the potential of further 3 GW offshore wind power capacity in total.
