Bournemouth Council Opposes Offshore Wind Farm
Bournemouth Borough council raised its concern over the proposed wind farm located off the coast of Isle of Wight.
Namely, Bournemouth Borough Council commissioned a study on the effect of the 194-turbine Navitus Bay wind farm on the Local community.
The Study found that the wind farm would have a negative impact on tourism, as well as annoy residents during the construction phase.
Council leader John Beesley said: “Residents who attended our public meeting told us they are opposed to this wind farm, and now the report clearly shows that this proposal is bad for Bournemouth.”
“The beauty of the natural environment, and in particular the view from Bournemouth’s cliffs and seafront is the main attraction for visitors to Bournemouth.”
According to the report, local residents would see a 14% drop in visitor numbers in a long term.
The Council will submit the report to the Examining Authority considering the Navitus Bay proposal.
