EAS Completes Sea Trials for Suezmax Tanker Joao Candido

Atlantico Sul Shipyard (EAS), on April 8th, successfully completed the sea trials for the Suezmax tanker Joao Candido. The sea trials were held for eight consecutive days with the presence of the owner (Transpetro), the Classification Society American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and suppliers of major equipment for the ship.

The materials, components, equipment and systems of the vessel were closely observed during the tests. In the fully loaded condition, with salt water in cargo tanks, shipyard completed simulations for the fully loaded vessel transporting the oil.

During the sea trials, the ship met all scheduled tests and the performance was quite satisfactory,” says the president of EAS, Serafim Junior Augustine. “The structural testing of cargo tanks was completed and approved, this was done to verify the operating conditions of the ship systems. Equipment such as the cargo pumps and ballast pumps were also approved and indicators such as fuel consumption, for example, proved themselves in accordance with the provisions in the contract“.

Now EAS will do the final activities on the ship, like cleaning the engine room, finishing the accommodations and general cleaning of the vessel. Then Joao Candido will be handed over to the owner.

Vessel João Cândido is the first in a series of ten Suezmax tankers ordered by Transpetro in a deal estimated to be worth around USD 2.75 billion.
