Brazil Eyeing Offshore Wind

Brazil has sworn in a new energy minister last Friday, who opened the door for ocean renewables development in this country, according to the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy website.

Namely, Minister Eduardo Braga said he wants the federal government to begin studies on offshore wind and ocean energy.

There are no offshore wind farms built in Brazil at the moment. However, the country has several offshore wind projects in early development stage.

Mr. Braga replaced the outgoing minister Edison Lobão, who will be returning to his seat in Brazil’s Senate.
