Brazil LNG imports down 19% in November

LNG imports into Brazil dropped 19% in November to 1,016,224 cbm from 1,257,028 cbm in October.

According to Platt’s Bentek Energy unit, the reduction came about as the vessels at the Salvador de Bahia regasification terminal cut into the pace of LNG offloads, clearing the backlog.

About 57% of the imports were sent to the northeast to ensure sufficient supply in the region.

Several vessels, the 130,000 cbm Excelerate LNG carrier as well as the 138,000 cbm Excalibur, together with the 160,00 Cool Runner and 12,000 cbm Norgas Unikum were held offshore in a queue as the northeast had excess gas supplies in mid-November.

The draught across Brazil brought the hydro-electric reserves down to an average of 13,1% of capacity, which prompted an increased demand for natural gas fueled-powered generation.
