Brazil: Petrobras Finds Gas in Espirito Santo Basin

Petrobras announced the new discovery of gas accumulation in the post-salt area of the Espírito Santo Basin, in Concession BM-ES-21 (Block ES-M-414), located 135 kilometers from the city of Vitória, in the state of Espírito Santo.

The discovery was made during drilling operations of well 1-BRSA-983-ESS, informally named Malombe. This well was drilled 13 kilometers southeast of Peroá Field, at a water depth of 980 meters.

The discovery was confirmed by a gas detector and logging operations conducted in reservoirs at a depth of around 2600 meters.

Petrobras is the consortium’s operator for the exploration of the concession (88.1%), in partnership with RepsolSinopec (11.9%).

The consortium will continue its activities in the block and plans on submitting an Evaluation Plan proposal to the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) with the objective to outline the newly-discovered accumulation and estimate the reservoirs’ volume and productivity.
