Brazilian FPSO explosion: One body recovered

A body of one of four sailors who went missing following last weeks’ Cidade de São Mateus FPSO explosion in Brazil has been recovered. Three persons still remain unaccounted for.

According to a spokesperson of BW Offshore, the owner of the FPSO, the body was found yesterday.

“Equipment is being mobilized to continue search for three remaining people,” the spokesperson said in an e-mail sent to Offshore Energy Today.

The latest body recovery now brings the death toll to six. It has previously been reported that four Brazilians and one Indian national died in the accident. The explosion in the FPSO pump room occurred on Wednesday last week, in the Espirito Santo basin, offshore Vitoria, Brazil.

Production at the FPSO, operated by BW Offshore for Petrobras, has been stopped and the unit has been shut down.
