Floating - Museum Vessel Radetzky Arrives at Rousse Shipyard for Repairs

The unique for the Balkans floating – museum “Radetzky” is an exact replica of the Austrian original of the legendary ship with which in the turbulent revolutionary year 1876 arrived the detachment of the Bulgarian revolutionary hero Christo Botev. The Bulgarian replica has been built in 1966 at the Shipyard of Rousse, after a major donation campaign, in which participated over 1 million Bulgarian children.

In 2011, again at the initiative of children- students from High school Christo Botev in the town of Kozlodouy, a campaign for saving the ship-museum, was organized. At that time due to financial crisis and lack of funds the ship was temporary laid up.

Planned repair works on the ship-museum Radetzky include patching of the hull, painting and replacing of pipelines, replacement of some parts and maintenance of the engine and engine compartment, installation of a completely new fire alarm system is also planned

The vessel is expected to be repaired and renovated by 20 may 2012, when is the start of the traditional Botev celebrations at the town of Kozlodouy.
