Bulker Gladiatorship Refloated off Mozambique

The 2010-built bulk carrier MV Gladiatorship has been refloated after it briefly grounded off Nacala, Mozambique, according to Rotterdam-based towage operator Kotug.

Kotug, which provided salvage assistance to refloat the vessel, said that the 56,800 dwt ship ran aground just before high water.

Operated by Greek shipping firm Seanergy Maritime Corp, the Supramax bulker was unable to refloat on its own and was at risk of being damaged by the drop between high and low water.

MV Gladiatorship, which was built by China’s Jinling Shipyard Jiangsu, was refloated within two hours of running aground, Kotug added.

The towage operator employed two Rotortugs to pull it free of the beach.

According to AIS data provided by MarineTraffic, the vessel started its journey from the port of Nacala in the early morning on September 4, and it is currently at anchor off Richards Bay, South Africa.
