Bumi Armada Files Suit against Woodside

Malaysia-based offshore services provider Bumi Armada Berhad filed a writ of summons in Western Australia’s supreme court against the Australian oil and gas company Woodside on March 14 due to a notice to terminate a charter contract.

The move comes on the back of Bumi Armada’s decision to take legal action against Woodside following the notice related to the charter contract for the Armada Claire floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit.

In a statement released today, Bumi Armada said that it is claiming for a declaration that the contract was repudiated by Woodside in an intent to terminate the deal.

The company is also claiming damages for breach of agreement, as well as an additional sum of USD 66.1 million for work done and materials supplied under the contract.

Bumi Armada recently said that it intends to fully enforce its rights under the contract, adding that the FPSO charter deal termination is expected to have an impact on its full year 2016 financial results, however it is not known to which extent.

The 1993-built Armada Claire has been operating in the Balnaves Field off north-western Australia since August 2014, when it delivered first oil.
