BW names second LNG FSRU

Singapore-based gas shipping giant BW Group held a naming ceremony for the company’s second floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU), the BW Integrity.

The naming ceremony was held on January 12 at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in  Geoje, South Korea.

The FSRU will serve as Pakistans’ second liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal at Port Qasim under a deal BW signed with  Pakistan GasPort Limited back in August 2016.

The vessel will have a storage capacity in excess of 170,000 cbm and a peak regasification capacity of 750 mmscfd.

The FSRU will more than double Pakistan’s LNG regasification capacity to over 1200 million cubic feet per day (MMcfd).

“The government of Pakistan fully supports this project and our state owned company, Pakistan LNG Terminals Limited, has procured 600 MMcfd regasification capacity of the PGPC terminal under a 15-year contract,” Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Federal Minister, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources of Pakistan said in a statement issued by BW on Monday.

According to Iqbal Z. Ahmed, Chairman of Pakistan GasPort, the BW Integrity is a vital part of Pakistan’s plan to reduce the country’s gas deficit,

The vessel would provide fuel for 3,600 megawatts of new power-generation capacity, “yield an estimated US$1.5 billion in annual foreign-exchange savings, and visibly boost the country’s economic growth,” Ahmed said.
