Canada: Official Urges Port Severn Channel Dredging

Port Severn Channel in Need for Dredging

Simcoe North MP Bruce Stanton sets forth a private member’s motion urging the deepening of the channel between Port Severn and Georgian Bay, reports Simcoe.

It is narrow, shallow, turns sharply and is subject to strong currents exiting the Port Severn dam and locks,” says Stanton.

This act, presented on Monday, urges the Government to take action on this issue.

Deepening and widening of the navigation channel at various locations would provide a number of benefits for this area.

The need for dredging of this Canadian water channel appeared as early as 2009.

The Government of Canada is investing record amounts in historic channels to boost businesses and support communities along these waterways.

The motion will be considered by the House of Commons later this year.
