Carl Icahn in Transocean Swoop
Carl Icahn, the world’s 50th richest person, has bought a 1.56% stake in the world’s largest offshore drilling contractor, Transocean.
Ichan,76 , who is, according to Forbes, worth 14,8 billion, has also informed the Swiss-based rig owner that he intends to acquire more shares of Transocean in an amount exceeding the $682.1 million.
If the acquisition takes place the New York-born billionaire will then own more than 5 per cent of the company’s shares, which will make him one of the company’s largest shareholders.
Following the announcement, Transocean’s shares rose as much as 3 per cent, a 10-month high, according to Bloomberg.
