CHC helicopter makes emergency landing on BP’s North Sea platform

A CHC-operated helicopter had to make an emergency landing on a North Sea platform after experiencing an issue on Friday. 

According to VG, a Norwegian language news website, the helicopter of the Sikorsky S-92 type landed on BP’s Ula platform located in the North Sea, offshore Norway. There were 16 people on board, two pilots and 14 passengers.

The news website also reported that the helicopter landed after pilots received a notice of low oil pressure.

Offshore Energy Today reached out to CHC Helicopter seeking confirmation of this report and further details on the event.

A spokesperson for CHC said: “An aircraft safely returned to an offshore installation in Norway this morning, after a cockpit light illuminated during the flight. Our crew followed standard procedure and requested a priority landing. The aircraft made an uneventful landing and will now be thoroughly inspected by our engineers before returning to service.”

One of CHC helicopters was recently involved in an accident that took the lives of 13 people. The helicopter was on its way from Statoil’s Gullfaks B platform offshore Norway when it crashed.

Following the accident, Norway banned all H225 helicopter flights, including those used for the search and rescue missions. After Norway, UK also followed with the no-flight ban on all Super Puma EC225LP (H225) helicopters, to include the search and rescue and medical missions as well.
