Chevron extends ‘Maersk Deliverer’ rig contract

Maersk Drilling, Denmark’s largest offshore drilling contractor, has received a contract extension for its ‘Maersk Deliverer’ semi-submersible drilling rig.

According to Reuters, which revealed the news today, Maersk Drilling’s head said that the two-year extension is worth around $387 million.

The ‘Maersk Deliverer’ rig, that attracted media attention last year after snakes appeared onboard, is currently operating for Chevron in Angola.

Drillship deal

Also, according to Reuters, the company has received a short-term contract for its yet to be delivered drillship, Maersk Venturer, as revealed by Claus Hemmingsen, Maersk Drilling CEO .

The drillship, one of two units of the kind currently being built for Maersk Drilling by Samsung Heavy Industry in South Korea, is scheduled for delivery this month. The unit is expected to be employed by an oil company in South East Asia.

As for the second drillship, delivery will follow in October, 2014.
