Chevron wins biosecurity award for Gorgon QMS

Australia’s Federal Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce named Chevron as a winner in the Industry category of the 2015 Biosecurity Awards.

Chevron was acknowledged for its environmental stewardship legacy on Barrow Island, where it has operated Australia’s largest onshore oilfield for more than 50 years.

The company was also acknowledged for working in partnership with the Department of Agriculture and equipping many thousands of individuals and key stakeholders internationally with both awareness and knowledge of the importance of biosecurity.

Part of Chevron’s commitment to protecting Barrow Island’s unique environment includes a comprehensive quarantine regime. The Barrow Island Quarantine Management System is the world’s largest non-government quarantine initiative. Quarantine management prevents the introduction of non-indigenous animals and plants that could potentially establish on the island, predate native species or compete with them for food, water and shelter.
