China: CIC Lixin Shipyard – Record Repair Time of Two Rudders and Propellers

CIC Lixin Shipyard on August 3rd, completed the repairs of bulk carrier Ning An 15. The subject vessel is propelled by two main engines and two propellers. The main repair work was hull sand blasting, the survey of propellers and shafts, the renewal of 20 pieces of hatch covers packing channel and overhauling of main and auxiliary engines.

The subject vessel belongs to China Shipping cargo fleet. The Owner’s representative was much concerned of the quality of hull painting regarding the highly corroded hull. For the repair of cargo hatch covers, due to large number of steel plates that needed to be renewed the project was quite complicated.

After the vessel was docked on July 26th night, the shipyard paid tremendous attention to the quality control, and strictly ensured the quality of high pressure washing, sand blasting and each coat of painting. Also, shipyard managed to complete the two engines and two propellers repair within 87 hours, the shipyard’s best repair time achieved so far. Finally, the routine dock repair was finished 1 day ahead of schedule and the owners highly praised the shipyard for this issue..
