China: Converteam Signs Contract with CSSC No. 9 Institute to Power New 600T Goliath Crane

Converteam has recently signed a contract with China State Shipbuilding Corporation No. 9 Institute (CSSC No. 9 Institute), one of the largest shipbuilding conglomerates in China, to supply one set of ProCrane drive solution for Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding’s 600T Goliath Crane.

The crane is to be installed at Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding’s offshore platform located in the Shanghai Lingang Offshore Base, one of the largest and most prevalent offshore areas in China. Provided by Converteam’s power electronics factory in Germany, the ProCrane drive system includes the new Ethernet-based PECe controller which provides identical hardware and user interfaces for the drives and the crane control. This significantly simplifies the software architecture. Faster field station communication by EtherCAT (2X100Mbaud full-Duplex), open interfaces and the complete software structure offer the flexibility to adapt to the future evolution of key industry standards. The ProCrane drive solution itself is the first one with the new Ethernet-based PECe controller to be sent to China.

Mr. Bell Huang, Sales & Marketing Director of Converteam Shanghai, commented: “This is Converteam’s first contract with CSSC No. 9 Institute. This order will not only bring increased visibility to our advanced technology but we also expect that the ProCrane drive solution will be put in place across China’s shipbuidling industry on a large scale.”

Mr. Long XU, the director of CSSC No.9 Institute, said, “Converteam’s tailored solution, especially its unique Ethernet-based PECe technology, significantly improves operation and reduces maintenance, reinforcing our confidence in Converteam.”

The commissioning of this groundbreaking project will commence in February of 2012, and the Crane will go into operation during the following March.
