China: COOEC Takes Delivery of HYSY 278 Heavy-Lift Vessel

China’s shipbuilder, China Merchants Yard, has delivered a new semi-submersible heavy lift vessel to COOEC.

The new, 222 meters long vessel, will be operated by a Dutch heavy-lift specialist, Dockwise, as per the agreement signed between the parties in December 2011.

HYSY 278, as the vessel is known, has a deadweight of 53,500 tonnes, and is capable of carrying loads of up to 50,000 tonnes.

Under the agreement with the owner, COOEC, Dockwise will be responsible for marketing the vessel and will train the permanent crew.

Back in December, Andre Goedee, Dockwise CEO said on the matter:

“COOEC will engage the world’s leading heavy marine transport firm to secure profitable cargoes for their vessel and Dockwise gains access to further, premium, new-build resource for our own clients as demand in the sector moves into rapid growth. COOEC’s vessel will complement our own fleet capacity during a phase of accelerated offshore project installation and development.”
