China: Cosco Provides Update on Dalian Developer Drillship

On August 20, with the support of its 3,000T sea crane, COSCO Dalian Shipyard successfully lifted and erected the power module of the Dalian Developer drillship 13 days ahead of schedule.

The power module is 20 meters in length, 50 meters in max width, 24 meters in height, and about 3,530 tonnes. Inside it, eight high-power diesel generators serve as the center of power generation, power distribution and power control. The power module is comprised of two units, on port and starboard sides, so the lifting operations had to be carried out in two parts.

The lifting of the power module is another big milestone for this project. As a single unit weighs more than 1,700 tonnes, the project team prepared very detailed safety and emergency plans and also carried out lifting drill simulations in advance. These measures effectively ensured that the process went smoothly.

It is reported that the hoisting of the riser storage module and associated in-dock works are the next step.
