China: Keel Laid for New Ferry of DFF 3609 Project at Afai Southern Shipyard

Afai Southern Shipyard, yesterday on July 11th, held the keel laying ceremony for an aluminum catamaran fast ferry of DFF 3609 project.

DFF 3609 (ASA037) Ferry is an aluminum catamaran fast ferry that is built by Afai Southern for Damen. This vessel of DFF3609 project will be propelled by twin main engines and twin propellers, with the overall length of 36.28m, beam of 9.7m, design speed of 27 knots, can carry 195 people, is scheduled to deliver at the end of February of 2013.

Project Manager Mr. Johan de Haas and Site Manager Mr. Bert Meijwaard from Damen and BV representatives attended the ceremony.

The shipbuilding contract for the construction of the ferry was signed on February 18th 2012; Mr. Qiu Shuquan, Director/Vice General Manager of Afai Southern, and Mr. Richard, Contracting Manager of Damen Group, signed the contract for one 36m aluminum alloy ferry in Guangzhou.
