China: Sevan Brasil Almost Ready for Petrobras

Last month, the ultra-deepwater cylindrical drilling unit Sevan Brasil built by COSCO Nantong Shipyard, was launched and set sail towards its anchorage.

Considerable planning was required by COSCO Nantong Shipyard to overcome difficulties associated with the vessel’s deep draft combined with a shallow shipping lane to ensure a smooth passage along the Qidong North passage to the sea.

Operational trials of the project’s propeller installation and other systems will be conducted at the anchorage.

According to Sevan Drilling ASA, the owner of the unit, Sevan Brasil is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter 2012. Sevan Brasil is contracted to Brazil’s oil company Petrobras S.A. on a six year contract for drilling operations offshore Brazil
