China's New Research Vessel Put Into Service

According to Xinhuanet.com, Kexue, or Science, China’s most advanced research vessel, was handed over to the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IOCAS) on Saturday.

Kexue is a 87.5-million-U.S. dollar ship with a cruising capacity of 15,000 nautical miles and a top speed of 15 knots, it can travel with 80 members for 60 days. It was manufactured by Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Co.

Compared to other Chinese research vessels, Kexue has a larger laboratory and more maneuverability.

The vessel can conduct water body detection, atmospheric exploration, deep-sea environment exploration and remote sensing information verification tasks.
