Namely, Chinese patrol ship Haixun 01, yesterday detected a pulse signal with a frequency of 37.5kHz per second, which is used by aircraft black boxes. Haixun 01 picked up the signal today as well.

There is no confirmed link to the missing plane, so it is yet to be established if this is the missing plane’s black box signal for sure.

Today, the former Australian defence force chief, Angus Houston stated that the Australian defence vessel Ocean Shield detected two separate signals within the northern part of the search area.

Today I can report some very encouraging information which has unfolded over the last 24 hours. The towed pinger locator deployed from the Australian vessel Ocean Shield has detected signals,” he said.

In today’s search mission there will be nine military planes, three civilian planes and 14 ships, and the Ocean Shield is now operating within a smaller search area , narrowed down to where the signal was detected.
