City of Fort Pierce to Host Meeting on Port Master Plan May 16 (USA)

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will hold two public meetings to collect input about the Port of Fort Pierce on Wednesday, May 16 from 1-3 p.m. at the River Walk Center, 600 North Indian River Drive and later that evening from 6-9 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers at Fort Pierce City Hall, 100 N. US Highway 1.

The public meeting is part of a series of meetings and interviews being conducted to evaluate a possible expanded role for the Port of Fort Pierce. FDOT has hired Adams Consulting Group to collect, compile, analyze and share information to help determine whether an additional study is warranted. If so, an update to the 2002 Port Master Plan will be completed.

FDOT wants to know:

• If stakeholders in the community are interested and willing to engage in a collaborative process that explores opportunities and challenges concerning the future of the Port.

• The market opportunities for the Port given the larger framework of Florida’s seaport system.

• If the community is committed to further explore additional opportunities at the Port.

Jeffrey Weidner, the FDOT’s strategic development manager, said the two projects that arose out of the master plan developed in 2002 — the Taylor Creek dredging and the rebuilding of Second Street — are now fully funded.
