Clipper Takes Two Ultramaxes at Sainty

Denmark’s Clipper Group has purchased two 64,000 dwt SDARI64 newbuilding bulk carriers being built by Sainty Shipbuilding in Yangzhou, China in a resale deal.

Namely, the duo form part of an order for four 64,000 dwt bulkers originally placed by with the financially troubled yard by Greek shipowner National Energy Transportation (NET).

“The vessels, to be named Clipper Kalavryta and Clipper Kythira, were purchased as resales and will be technically and commercially managed by Clipper,” the company announced.

Clipper added that it will take delivery of the two bulk carriers during the coming months.

“The delivery of these 64,000 dwt vessels supports our strategy, namely to grow our fleet in the handysize, supramax and ultramax segments, with modern vessels less than 4 years old in average. Following the delivery of Clipper Kalavryta and Clipper Kythira, our ultramax fleet will count 14 ships built in years 2013 to 2015,” Clipper went on to say.

These particular vessels will feature special cranes with an above the average lifting capacity and grab volume. Both vessels are also equipped with the ballast water treatment system Electro Cleen System to meet new requirements and thus preventing spreading of invasive species between oceans.
