CLNG President Comments on EIA Annual Energy Outlook 2014

In response to the publishing of the Energy Information Agency’s (EIA) reference case for the Annual Energy Outlook 2014 Early Release, Center for Liquefied Natural Gas (CLNG) President Bill Cooper issued the following statement:

“There is nothing in the EIA’s Annual Energy Outlook 2014 Early Release that should give the U.S. Department of Energy pause about issuing non-free trade agreement permits to export LNG. In fact, the data supports an accelerated pace by DOE to authorize the pending applications.”

The EIA’s Annual Energy Outlook 2014 presents updated projections for U.S. energy markets through 2040. Some key projections from the outlook include:

• Domestic natural gas production will rise 56 percent from 2012 to 2040, when production is forecast to reach 37.6 trillion cubic feet (Tcf).
• Domestic natural gas consumption will rise 23 percent from 2012 to 2040, when consumption is forecast to reach 31.6 Tcf.

Taken together, these projections allow EIA Administrator Adam Sieminski to conclude, “Advanced technologies for crude oil and natural gas production are continuing to increase domestic supply and reshape the U.S. energy economy as well as expand the potential for U.S. natural gas exports.”
