CMA CGM Gets Its Biggest Boxship

Business & Finance

French container carrier CMA CGM has taken delivery of a 17,722 TEU CMA CGM Kerguelen, the largest container ship in its fleet, in Busan, South Korea.

The 398 meters long and 54 meters wide Kerguelen will be positioned on the company’s French Asia Line. From Le Havre, the ship will export consumer products, luxury products, as well as industrial products to Asia and the Middle East.

According to CMA CGM, the Kerguelen emits 10% less CO2 compared to the previous vessels, with an expected CO2 performance of 37g CO2 / km per container.

The first in a series of six ships of the same size that will be delivered this year, the vessel was named after the 18th century French navigator Yves-Joseph de Kerguelen-Trémarec who discovered an archipelago of islands that was later named Archipelago Kerguelen.
