Congressman Boustany calls for streamlined LNG permitting process

Congressman Charles Boustany called for the passage of the House Amendment to S. 2012, the Energy Policy Modernization Act of 2016 that includes streamlining LNG permitting process.

According to the congressman’s statement, the House Amendment combines the text of 37 House-passed Energy & Commerce and Natural Resources pro-energy bills to the Energy Policy Modernization Act of 2016.

The amendments include measures that streamline the process for LNG export projects before arriving at the Department of Energy, and require the DoE to expedite the decision on LNG export applications.

Additionally, the bill calls for collaboration between governments, institutions, industry and labour on workforce training, efficient gas pipelines permitting and enhanced national security.

In his statement, Boustany said, “Bureaucratic red tape is hindering the growth of our energy industry. The House Amendment streamlines the approval process for LNG export facilities and ensures the pipelines providing natural gas are permitted more efficiently.”

He noted that the amendments would ensure America remains a global leader in energy production and exportation.
