The construction of the liquefied natural gas terminal near Titanyen in Haiti was launched in the presence of the Minister of Tourism, Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin and the Minister Delegate in charge of energy security, René Jean Jumeau.

The project sponsors are Haytrac Power and Gas S.A., ANDINAT, PROMIGAZ and GASENER. The project is intended to reduce the environmental pollution caused by the use of charcoal as a fuel source for the island.

This project will cost $123 million and will be completed over the next 36 months. It is expected to create 159 direct jobs and nearly 6,000 indirect jobs. The dock will be built on an area of 75,000 m2 area and will significantly reduce environmental pollution.

According to its design, the project will be implemented in two stages. First, the construction of 15 000 m3 for importing liquefied natural gas in Cité Soleil and Morne Cabrit, capacity that will be doubled later, and construction of a pipeline to supply the industrial area of Port au Prince, in order to supply the plants and make them more productive in respect of the environment.

“The project is the proof that the process of change initiated by the Government is on the right track. It also demonstrates the willingness of the private sector in Haiti to work with the Administration to create alternative energy sources as an alternative to charcoal,” said the Prime Minister, adding that “The country is not open for business in words only, the inauguration of this project is the proof of that.”

Reynold Bonnefil, General Director of Haytrac Power & Gas SA, gave the assurance that the project will comply with the environmental standards.
