Corps Seeks Public Comments on Pembina Project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, announced a draft environmental assessment for proposed modifications to the Pembina, N.D., Flood Protection System.

A public review and comment period on the draft EA commenced on July 10 and ends on August 9.

The city of Pembina is proposing to modify portions of the 2.9-mile levee/floodwall flood protection system. Modifications would include raising the elevation of the levee in multiple locations, raising the elevation and replacing the cap of the entire length of floodwall, installing riprap below the pumping station outlet and fixing identified maintenance deficiencies.

The Corps of Engineers constructed the project under the provisions of Section 205 of the 1948 Flood Control Act, and it was completed in 1976.
