Platform No 2 Installed on Giglio Island (Italy)

Platform No 2 of the Parbuckling Project, i.e. rotating the wreck of Costa Concordia into a vertical position, has been installed on the Giglio island, the official site of the Project revealed.

It is the fifth of six subsea platforms that will provide a safe supporting structure for the wreck.

The platform, which was built at the Rosetti shipyard in Marina di Ravenna, weighs about 1,000 tons, measures 40m and is 22m in height, It is supported by five big pillars (almost 2m in diameter) secured to the granite seabed about 10m deep.

Work continues relentlessly 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Currently, there are 25 vessels and 460 workers working on site.
