Crane Crashes on Boxship in Vietnam

Several people were injured after a gantry crane crashed on the containership Fortune Navigator in Ta Thuan Port, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, around 11 pm local time on November 24, according to local media.

The exact number of injured people and potential fatalities is yet to be confirmed.

The accident, which happened while the cargo was being offloaded, reportedly left a number of workers trapped as the crane fell on the cargo and the workers on site.

Several ambulance vehicles entered the port area and rescue efforts are underway.

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation and the accident site is closed for public.

Vietnam-flagged Fortune Navigator, operated by Vietnam Ocean Shipping Joint Stock Company (VOSCO), sailed to Ho Chi Minh from Hai Phong. The 8,515 DWT ship was built in 1998.
